WORKSHOP WITH MARK BOHLE, JAUME RAMÍREZ, AND JÚLIA ESQUÉ @mark_bohle @jaumeramirezstudio @juliaesque
For this workshop I was instructed to create a drawing tool.
For this workshop I was instructed to create a drawing tool.
I became immediately interested in the idea of directly relating the drawing tool to the body, beyond the hand. I found thinking about the drawing tool as a system or process to be a useful metaphor. Analogous to creative expression, a result of both absorbing input through the brain and partaking in mental and physical process resulting in some form of output. In short, I wanted to explore the idea of hand, tool, head literally.
Mark, Jaume and Júlia introduced us to the concept of Homo Faber, in an essay by Hannah Arendt: “Human beings are able to control their fate and their environment as a result of the use of tools.” I wanted to see what happens if the tool is a bit imposing and unpredictable in its use, which creates the illusion of having control, and being limited in the act of creation by the tether of preexisting conditions.
